Lesson Instructions
1. Read the lesson introduction at the top and take a few moments to reflect on cartoon that is provided above. How might this describe bias? 2. Watch the music video 'Signs' by Tesla provided. The lyrics to the first part of the song are also provided so that you can follow along. What type of bias is the singer talking about in this set of lyrics? 3. Look at the cartoon source provided below. Take a minute and analyze this source. Look at the man's posture, the background, and the words. Could he be giving a bias opinion? Once you have taken a few moments, write a proper paragraph on how you would describe the bias in this cartoon, and submit it when finished. 4. Underneath the lyrics to 'Signs', is a link that should take you to an exercise about detecting bias. Follow the link and complete the exercise. What was your score? 5. There are two documents at the bottom of this page. On on detecting bias, the other a closer look at bias. When completing "Detecting Bias", use your textbook and the information given on page 56 &57 to fill in the table. The other document, "Closer Look at Bias", is a mind-mapping exercise. The first article is completed and you can use it as a reference. Now go ahead and read the second article, filling in the word-web. |
