To what extent are nation and identity related?
The desire to belong is one of the strongest desires a human being can feel. Think, for example, about the sense of belonging you feel when you are part of a group such as your family, your friends, your school, or your community. The idea of nation has the power to spark feelings of belonging to a much larger collective identity and national identity. This is largely because factors, such as language and religion, often inspire a sense of collective identity - and a sense of national identity.
